Friends of Ormeau Bottle Tree

Did you know that our town of Ormeau has recently grabbed the attention of Botanists throughout Australia?

Right here on our doorstep, we have approx. 160 Bottle Tree's which have recently been placed on the Critically Endangered Species List! This particular species are located on both public and private land on the western side of the M1 - within the Ormeau/Kingsholme area.

The Friends of Ormeau Bottle Tree is a new community group set up with 2 purposes:

1. To educate the local and wider community about the existence of the Ormeau Bottle Trees, as well as other unique flora which is located in the Ormeau Eco-system, and

2. To organise planned family walks to visit the trees and some local Botanists have expressed interest in accompanying us for these.

We are in negotiations with several local landowners to add their land to a roster of organised educational walks for our members and have received agreement and backing for assistance from Qld Parks and Wildlife Services (Qld Govt), Gold Coast Sustainability and Gold Coast Botany.

Rotary Satellite Club of Ormeau

Meetings: Every Monday night from 6-7pm at the Norfolk Tavern, Pascoe Road, Ormeau

This is a new club working under the Sponsor Rotary Club of Beenleigh. The intent is to offer service to the community of Ormeau with a view to charter the Club in our own right within 2 years.

Learn more about the Ormeau Satellite Club link

With the growing number of Ormeau residents in the Rotary Club of Beenleigh, a team of like-minded members have investigated the feasibility of providing service in their own community. The Beenleigh Club Board Members are delighted and very supportive of this proposal, so herein lies the new service group in Ormeau.

A Satellite Club is an extension of the Sponsor Club and offer an alternative meeting time and place to the Sponsor Club. A member of a Satellite Club is a valued member of the Sponsor Club and has a voice in the service projects proposed. In Ormeau, the club has recently embarked in partnership with Keep Queensland Beautiful, on cleaning up Peachy Road between the Pascoe Road and Tillyroen Road roundabouts, past the Brian Harris Oval. We value the resident’s feedback while completing this service, and have met a number of people in the process. We have engaged our local member Donna Gates in order to understand what the community needs and wants. We are investigating the criteria needed to clean up graffiti in the area, assisting the council by offering labour at no cost.

Our club is focussed on assisting and supporting all age groups in Ormeau, and looking to get our youth involved in community activities. Rotary International offer Youth Exchange programs, both short and long term that can be life-changing. Our members come from a vast range of backgrounds and are more than happy to work with youth in our community to develop life skills at no cost to the family.

We welcome an opportunity to serve in Ormeau and would appreciate community feedback and membership. Our meetings are open and friendly, at the Norfolk Tavern on a Monday evening from 6pm. We are very child friendly, and you have a choice whether you want to have a meal, it isn’t mandatory.

Feel free to browse our sponsor club website for information on events we assist with. In November we are relaunching our annual festival as the Rum, Rump and Rumba festival which is guaranteed to be the event of the year!
